Borehole Well in South Sudan

For the past four years, Good Hope 6th graders have read the novel A Long Walk to Water, which is based on the true story of Salva Dut, a Lost Boy of Sudan.  Inspired by Salva's story, students have raised money for the non-profit he founded, Water for South Sudan, which drills borehole wells in rural villages.  When they were in 6th grade, current CVHS 9th graders, GH 8th graders, and GH 7th graders together raised over $6,000 through years of fundraising efforts.  They organized after school events, sold bake sale items, wrote donation letters to local businesses, asked family and friends for support, and even went door-to-door in their neighborhoods.  This year's 6th graders are thrilled about the well drilled in honor of Good Hope Middle School and have decided to pick up the challenge, hoping to raise funds for a second well that will bear the name of our new middle school - Mountain View.
